METAPHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: (aka METAPHYSICAL FABRICATIONS) TouchOSC Controller for the sound generator ensemble for NI Reaktor

METAPHYSICAL FABRICATIONS

An in-depth TouchOSC control surface for the well known Native Instruments Reaktor Ensemble Metaphysical Fabrications an updated version to the original Metaphysical Functions with some added convenient pitch/key scaling options along with option to use Metaphysical as a real-time FX processor. 

Engage with virtually all the controllable parameters with added depth and accessibility to select parameters. Several dedicated sections expand on the parameters of the ensemble that allow for precision control unmatched by mouse control.  Size of the template is 1920x1080 while best intended for a touchscreen this will also scale to accommodate any device running the current version of TouchOSC.

OSC - Open Sound Control

The template utilizes OSC protocol for a majority of the control of Metaphysical this allows for bidirectional feedback of parameters. MIDI is reserved for the pitch control (P1/P2) section of Metaphysical. Use the dedicated fader for selecting a global MIDI Channel for the keys, pitch bend and mod wheel.

RELATIVE MOTION FOR FADERS AND ENCODERS

In order to replicate the ensemble, the encoders and faders use relative control.  This allows for touch interaction on any part of the parameter being controlled and you can adjust vertically from there with accuracy to prevent sudden jumping or stepping of parameters.

It is all accessible here in some capacity and should look familiar. Sample, Oscillators Volumes, Global and more in a semi modular layout.

OSCILLATOR SEMITONE SELECT

Since dialing in the semitones of the Metaphysical Oscillators can at times feel almost surgical, this section is dedicated to selecting specific notes with precision. Compose a chord with a few touches. Tap the semitone label to view the corresponding oscillator volume. The semitone ranges are limited to 0 - 112 where sounds seem most audible.

This section expands on the Sample section, here you can select specific samples from the Sample Map.

P1 / P2

This portion stretches the P1 / P2 control for more accuracy. The keys section for the MIDI controlled parameter options of P1 & P2. Mod Wheel options can be selected here along with the MIDI Channel for the keys section.

RESOCHORD

Adds depth to the parameters, jump between Resochord presets and select any pitch for the feedback

REVERB

Extends the Reverb Section for specific parameters

TOUCH OSC & REAKTOR CONNECTIONS

To connect TouchOSC go to Connections, (chain-link icon)

MIDI: Select the Bridge Connection for Send and Receive. MIDI is dedicated for utilizing the Key Scaling portion of Metaphysical (P1/P2)

OSC: Use any available connection in the OSC Section. Enter the IP Address and port to send and receive OSC Messages.

BRIDGE: Use any available Bridge Connection, enter the IP Address or click Browse and select the name of the device to populate the IP Address.

REAKTOR OSC CONNECTIONS

In Reaktor go to File/OSC Settings and make sure OSC Activate is selected.

OSC SEND: Activate if needed, enter the computer's IP Address along with a port number (matching TouchOSC Receive Port)

OSC RECEIVE: Activate if needed, choose a port number (matching TouchOSC Send Port).

ADDITIONAL NOTES

The internal automation parameters within Metaphysical do not transmit OSC output, therefore internal Metaphysical automation will not show on the template.  In addition the Record Automation feature for was also not included since that process needs to be initialed and controlled on the ensemble in order to be captured properly.

One workaround for the Ableton users for visual automation in TouchOSC is to map parameters to any Max for Live LFO device. Any simple LFO device will do.
